Launch of Viv Buckley’s Exhibition, “Portraits and Places”

Vivien BUckley’s Exhibition titled “Portraits and Places”, an eclectic mix of 34 images of photography and digital art, opened in Cork County Library on 1st February 2019.

Launching the exhibition was Cllr. Bernard Moynihan, Chairperson of the Kanturk Mallow Municipal District. Cllr Moynihan particularly liked one of Viv’s pieces, Snow Day Kanturk, which was shot on the 2nd March last year, the day of the big snow.

Guitarist Noel Walsh played while the large attendance of friends, family and members of other local camera groups wandered around the exhibition.

Jim Mc Sweeney very ably took on the role of M.C. for the event, introducing the representative from the library services, who welcomed everyone to the gallery in the County Library.

Jim then introduced Professor Yvonne Buckley, Chair of Zoology in Trinity College, who spoke of the importance of mixing technology and the arts. Yvonne then introduced some of the models Viv had used in her portraits, who were present at the launch.

The next to speak was Viv, who told the assembled gathering a little about the techniques she uses to produce her digital pieces and thanked everyone for taking the time to be at the exhibition, especially the staff of County Library who helped to put the exhibition up, Cllr Moynihan and Ian McDonagh, County Arts Officer.

The afternoon concluded with refreshments for everyone in attendance.

Thanks to Pat Sheehan and Kieran Cogan who took photographs at the event.

The exhibition is in the library till 28th February.
