MCC Photographer of the Year 2019 Competition Results

The announcement of winners and presentation of awards for our Photographer of the Year Competition (POTY) 2019 took place on Monday 27th May 2019.

For the competition, each entrant submitted 4 mono prints and 4 colour prints, which were presented for judging as a panel and scored individually over four grades, with Grade 4 being the most advanced.

Judging of the images took place at the Mallow GAA complex on Sunday 26th May 2019. We were extremely privileged to have three top class judges for the competition: Judy Boyle FIPF FRPS EFIAP/Gold, Pauric McGroder FIPF ARPS AIPPA and Brian Hopper FIPF ARPs EFIAP/d1.

Judy, Pauric and Brian did a fantastic job of judging the twenty-three entries, not only scoring each image, but also providing valuable constructive feedback on the images and panels. It was hugely appreciated by all the entrants to have such quality feedback from these highly qualified and respected photographers. Huge thanks to Judy, Pauric and Brian for their contribution.

A special thanks to Viv Buckley and Lisa Egan, our Competition Secretary and Asst. Competition Secretary, for all the administration, preparation and organisation of the competition and judging, which as always with Viv and Lisa, went off like clockwork. Many thanks also to our scorekeepers Jim McSweeney, Paul Tips and Neil O’Mullane and to Coleman Culhane, Pat Sheehan and Kieran Cogan who managed the prints during the judging and to Ger Buckley for all the help in setting up the room for judging.

The awards were presented by our new Chairman, Kieran Cogan, and our outgoing Chairman, Jim McSweeney..

The Overall Photographer of the Year 2019 was awarded to Janusz Trzesicki LIPF, who also took home awards for Best Overall Colour Panel, Best Colour Panel Grade 4, 1st Place Grade 4 POTY, 1st Place Grade 4 Colour Panel and 2nd Place Grade 4 Mono Panel. This is the third year in a row that Janusz has won the Overall Photographer of the Year award…an incredible achievement, especially when one considers the the very high level of talent in the club. Congratulations Janusz and well deserved.
