Mallow Camera Club held a Charity Night on 14th June 2021 in aid of Special Friends, Mitchelstown. The event was held over Zoom, with an excellent attendance of members.
The feature event of the night was a presentation by the well-known Irish landscape photographer, Bernard Geraghty. Bernard gave an excellent presentation of his work, including his fabulous landscape and seascape images from Ireland, Iceland, Lofoten and The Faroe Islands and astrophotography from Tenerife. Bernard also very generously waived his fee for the evening, instead donating this to the funds raised. Bernard’s website is https://bglandscapetours.ie and is well-worth a visit.
Thanks to the excellent generosity of Mallow Camera Club members and Bernard, the event raised €1,300 for Special Friends, Mitchelstown.
Special Friends is a voluntary group run by parents in Mitchelstown, which offers practical assistance and support to the families of children with special needs. The group organises specially designed therapies, activities, one-to-one support and outings tailored to the individual physical and emotional needs of its members.
Special Friends offer support through a range of different activities which include the provision of equipment to help with both educational and physical development, outings that allow the young members to enjoy themselves in a relaxed, safe and stress-free environment, sensory parties for children with touch and smell issues, music therapy and support for siblings who we often forget are carers too. Support is also provided to enable children to attend mainstream summer camps.
Mallow Camera Club’s Chairman, Kieran Cogan, and Treasurer, Phillip Kerins, presented a cheque for €1,300 to members of Special Friends at an outdoor gathering in Mitchelstown. Chairman, Kieran Cogan, said: “We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause, thanks, as usual, to the generosity of our members.”
