Judging of entries and the announcement of awards for Mallow Camera Club’s Image of the year 2020-2021 Competition took place on 1st February 2021 via Zoom. This year’s competition also included the inaugural John Doheny Perpetual Trophy. This was introduced to honour the memory of John Doheny, a much- respected colleague and one of the Club’s founder members, who passed away last year. The John Doheny Perpetual Trophy is awarded to the best overall image, as adjudicated by the judges between the Overall Colour Image of the Year and the Overall Mono Image of the Year.
The competition attracted 33 entries, with each entrant submitting one colour and one mono image. The scoring and commentary was conducted live over Zoom. We were privileged to have three top-class judges for our competition:
Helen Hanafin FIPF EFIAP/s, member of Dublin Camera club an IPF-approved judge
Mike Brown of Platform 3, award-wining fine art photographer and educator
David Gibbins ARPS APAGB EFIAP/b BPE5 CPAGB AV, a member of Beeston Camera Club in Nottinghamshire and a N&EMPF & PAGB Alliance listed judge.
The competition attracted a high standard, as usual, with some very close scoring and the judges had to deliberate and debate on a number of ties, including on the Overall IOTY. Helen, Mike and David put in an excellent effort, especially in providing feedback on every image with positive observations and constructive suggestions for improvement where appropriate, and we hugely appreciate their contribution.
The Overall Image of the Year, and the inaugural John Doheny Perpetual Trophy, was awarded to Justyna Trzesicka LIPF for her fabulous image “Artemis”. This image was also awarded Overall Colour Image of the Year and first place in Grade 4 Colour. Justyna also picked up third place in Grade 4 Mono.
The Overall Mono Image of the Year and first place in Grade 4 Mono was awarded to Neil O’ Mullane LIPF, for his image ” Fair Head & Beara”.
