Judging and the announcement of winners for Mallow Camera Club’s prestigious Image of the Year 2024/25 Competition took place on Monday night, April 28th.
As one of the club’s premier annual events, the competition features two categories: Colour and Monochrome. Each entrant submits one printed image in each category. The overall winning image, judged to be the best across both sections, receives the John Doheny Perpetual Trophy.
Club members compete across four grades—Grade 1 for beginners and less experienced photographers, up to Grade 4 for the most advanced. Prizes are awarded in each category within each grade. This year’s competition saw a very high standard of entries, with many outstanding photographs submitted.
We were honoured to welcome two highly respected judges: Ann Francis FIPF and Kieran O’Mahony AIPF. Both brought their expertise and enthusiasm to the event, offering valuable feedback on every image with thoughtful praise and constructive suggestions. Their dedication and professionalism contributed greatly to the competition’s success, and we thank them for their efforts. We look forward to welcoming them again in the future.
The Image of the Year and winner of the John Doheny Perpetual Trophy was awarded to Eamon O’Donnell for his stunning colour image titled “Church above the Fog.” This image also won Colour Image of the Year and secured first place in Grade 2 Colour.
